PROJECT NAME: Integration of Afghan Refugees into Social and Economic Life
PROJECT PERIOD: 01.09.2021 – 31.08.2022
PROJECT DONOR NAME AND NUMBER: ECHO, BMZ and GIZ – 83396383
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The “Community-Based Social Services for Refugees and Host Communities (CLIP 2)” Project, also known as the “Community-Based Local Initiatives Project (CLIP 2),” is financed jointly by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union’s Humanitarian Aid Organization (ECHO), and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The project aims to strengthen the psychological and socio-economic resilience of vulnerable members of both refugees and host communities. To achieve this, local initiatives and civil society organizations working in close cooperation with public institutions and organizations are supported under four components:
- Expansion of protection services for vulnerable individuals among refugees and host communities,
- Increasing access to non-formal education,
- Supporting social cohesion,
- Developing institutional and individual capacities and inter-institutional cooperation.
The project targets vulnerable members of refugees and host communities. Registered Syrian refugees under temporary protection status, as well as refugees from other countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran, are included within the scope. The project particularly targets disadvantaged and vulnerable groups such as households headed by women, single parents, persons with disabilities, survivors of gender-based violence, and individuals in need of psychosocial support. Services that consider the needs of different age groups, women, and men are encouraged, while activities aiming to reduce the medium- and long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the target group are also taken into account. Throughout all activities, the principle of “do no harm” is observed by considering the needs of host community members.
The overall objective of the project is to facilitate the social and economic integration of Afghan refugees living in Aksaray province and its districts, thereby easing their lives. Our project targets Afghan refugees in Aksaray with the aim of enabling them to learn the local language and enter the employment market through vocational training programs and modules. In this way, the social integration process of Afghan refugees can be accelerated to promote social peace and harmony.
Through this project, significant contributions will be made to raising awareness about prejudiced attitudes, discrimination, social exclusion, language barriers, and unemployment faced by Afghan refugees in the intervention areas.
